Installing new generation Concrete Testing Hubs

Concrete is one of the world’s most widely used construction materials and ensuring the quality and compressive strength of the concrete used in the structure is essential

Tamdown have recently installed our first new generation bespoke Concrete Testing Hub to enable our site Technicians to carry out the creation of concrete cubes and testing and monitoring of results within the best site environment.

The new hubs are equipped with the latest technology to ensure effective ambient temperature control and curing tank temperature, purpose-built racking for concrete moulds, stainless steel workstations and space for monitoring and recording results and reports.

The qualified Technicians and in-house Technical Manager are able to share live data and liaise with their customer’s design team to ensure the highest of standards.

Following an initial period of testing and feedback the Concrete Testing Hubs will be implemented across all our RC frame projects.

Continued investment in the future and the environment

Tamdown recently took delivery of 14 Hitachi ECO 130LCN 14ton excavators, this follows further significant investment in Kubota equipment last year.

These new excavators support the companies ongoing commitment to reducing our Carbon footprint while ensuring the most efficient and appropriate equipment is available for our teams and our customers.

We regularly renew our plant equipment every few years to ensure we are using the best available tools for the works we undertake.

Tamdown focus on Mental Health through group initiative

As part of Tamdown’s Health & Safety initiatives, last year saw the launch of the Groups partnership with Mates in Mind.

Male site workers in construction are three times more likely to commit suicide than the average UK male, which is a shocking statistic.

Mates in Mind aims to raise awareness, address the stigma of poor mental health and improve positive mental wellbeing in the industry, and Tamdown is working towards the same goals within its own business.

The Group as a whole has 60 champions all trained in Mental Health First Aid. These individuals come from all areas and teams across the business both on site and in office.

All managers across the group will be trained by Autumn, with the aim being for all 1000 staff to be trained by Spring 2020, it’s a significant task but Tamdown are committed to this and the wellbeing of their people.

This month we launched our Wellbeing Champions for staff across our wider group – Nexus Infrastructure plc.

Our Champions promote and support positive mental, physical and social wellbeing and are available to employees should they need someone to listen or need directing to other support resources.

Tamdown Trekkers Complete Housebuilder Mountain Marathon

This weekend the ‘Tamdown Trekkers’ completed the Housebuilder Mountain Marathon.
Our team Rob Kendal, Charles Sweeney, Emma Sutton, Ant Davis and Max Morris completed Marathon Distance (well actually, more than 30 miles) over the difficult mountain terrain of Snowdonia National Park through rain and storms- with the odd patch of sun. The team were one of 31 teams and hiking alongside industry peers from Taylor Wimpey, Barratt Homes, Redrow, David Wilson and Crest Nicholson.

The event as a whole raised over £160,000 for the Youth Adventure Trust who support vulnerable young people through outdoor activities. Aches and pains aside the event was hugely successful and enjoyable for everyone involved across our industry.

Our staff attend course to train in Mental Health First Aid

Staff from Tamdown recently attended a ‘Mental Health First Aid’ course supported by Mates in Mind and our group charity Nexus Community Trust.

This is the second group of our people who have undertaken this training and all our employees will be invited to mental health awareness training over the next eighteen months, and all line managers, site supervisors and engineers will be trained in managing conversations around wellbeing.

At least one person takes their own life every day in the construction industry, and our partnership with Mates in Mind is to encourage our people take the time to have a conversation with colleagues and other work mates on site and off about their wellbeing.
