Tamdown is delivering the Infrastructure and Groundworks at the prestigious Chilton Woods development in Sudbury for repeat customer Taylor Wimpey London.

Challenge

  • 442 unit housing site constructed over a 5 year period.
  • Challenging build due to the level variances across the site which means there are significant earthworks and retaining features across areas of the site and a detailed cut and fill strategy was required to optimise the amount of re-use on the development.
  • 4,300m of infrastructure spine road and sewers connecting into existing on-site outfalls installed as part of the consortium package
  • The site also requires support in delivering a heat hub that transfers hot water to each individual home through a “highly insulated” plastic pipe heat network, supplying instant heating and hot water, with a thermal storage tank replenishing itself.

Solution

  • Using our extensive experience of large-scale infrastructure and residential groundworks, to ensure a high-quality standard and in an efficient timescale.
  • Expertise from working on district heat networks enables us to apply this to the installation and setup of the heat hub network.
  • Taylor Wimpey came to Tamdown for this project because of our excellent working relationship and our successful delivery on our last scheme together.
  • Our attention to Health and Safety, high quality, and speed of build were significant contributors to our success in securing and delivery of this project.

Outcome

  • Infrastructure and Phase 1 are complete
  • Works have begun on Phase 2 with many more phases to come in the future.
